The term "Cyber Monday" was first coined by the US Retail Federation in 2005. The holiday was conceived as an online version of the traditional "Black Friday", which symbolizes the beginning of the Christmas shopping season in the United States, but with a focus on online shopping.
Differences from "Black Friday"
Online format. While Black Friday was originally associated with physical stores and sales in offline retail, Cyber Monday is entirely focused on online shopping.
Fewer lines. Unlike Black Friday, when shoppers line up and crowd into stores, Cyber Monday allows you to shop from home or the office online.
